New albums and singles worthy of a playlist update

‘Release Radar’ is a weekly roundup of artists who topped the charts, dropped new singles, or finally released that much anticipated album, just in case you missed it.

BlocBoy JB: New Album, Don’t Think That

Memphis native BlocBoy JB released his second mixtape of the year last Tuesday. The project titled Don’t Think That has seven tracks, two of which feature Lil Uzi Vert and Hoodrich Pablo Juan. BlocBoy JB shot to the top of the charts when he released Look Alive featuring Drake in February. Since then, BlocBoy has not slowed down. Hitting the Tidal X Brooklyn event in October, and scheduled to perform at Rolling Loud music festival in Los Angeles in December. Fun Fact: BlocBoy’s viral dance “shoot” is now featured in the Epic Games cult-favorite Fortnite game.

Carly Rae Jepsen: New Song, Party For One

The Call Me Maybe superstar has come out with another single that may just as easily get stuck in your head. Carly Rae Jepsen released the new single titled Party For One last week. Jepsen’s new single ditches sad break up tunes of the past for a pop-filled track that encourages you to dance alone, sing at the top of your lungs, and move on from your last love. Her song has a similar vibe to her last few released works– the catchy chorus and thumping beat makes you feel like you’re in your own movie montage strutting down the street.

Jacob Banks: New Album, Village

We’ve been following Jacob Banks since we saw him takeover the stage at North Coast Festival last summer in Chicago. He’s been slowly releasing singles throughout the fall and finally dropped his album Village last week. Village features previously released songs as well as some unheard ones such as Witness, Prosecco, and Kumbaya (ft. Bibi Bourelly). The album isn’t the only big career move for Banks. The soulful singer announced his North American tour last week and YouTube named Banks their Artist on the Rise of December.

Calvin Harris and Benny Blanco: I Found You

Benny Blanco has been around for years, but 2018 was truly his year after his hit song Eastside featuring Khalid and Halsey stayed on top of the charts for weeks. Blanco came back for more releasing a single I Found You with Calvin Harris. This is the first track where Calvin Harris’ vocals are featured on a song in many years. The two DJ’s produced I Found You with their classic summer-hit style beats and repetitive chorus. Along with the single, Blanco released a fun-loving, goofy video for the song featuring Blanco attempting to dance and his famous music friends Halsey, Cashmere Cat and Tory Lanez.
